The Apuan Alps are a mountain range situated in the North of Tuscany, between the Magra and Serchio Rivers, which run down south-west with the Apuan Riviera and the Versilia and, to the north-east, with the valleys of Di Lunigiana and Garfagnana.
Part of it is found in the regional natural park of the Apuan Alps. The Apuan Alps characterise the landscape and the territory of Garfagnana.
The Apuan Alps are mainly known for the excavation of the marble from Carrara, which over the years has disfigured their profile.
The marble mountains are a natural jewel, protected by a regional natural park, the ideal stop for lovers of nature. The walls, the numerous characteristic grottos and the deep cavers of the Apuan Alps attract many who are passionate about speleology and mountaineering.
Within the park it is also possible to go on beautiful trips on foot or by horse. The Apuan Alps make up a tourist area of great interest, not only because of the caves and other evidence of the marble industry, but also for the many opportunities that are available from the natural, speleological and trekking point of view.
